MOORE APPEAL IN COURT’S HANDS

Commandments Case Will Set Huge Precedent

Till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot nor one tittle shall pass from the Law (Matthew 5:18)

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s appeal to prevent removal of the Ten Commandments monument he erected in the Alabama Judicial Building two years ago was heard Wednesday by a three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals in Montgomery. The panel will now deliberate and issue their ruling, which could take days or months.

· Dr. Herb Titus, one of Moore’s attorneys, argued that the Ten Commandments are the basis for both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. “God is officially acknowledged as the source of law and liberty," he said.

· Judge Moore argued that it is permissible to acknowledge God just as our founders often acknowledged God and the Bible. Moore plainly intended the monument to commemorate the "moral foundations of law" and the "sovereignty of God over the affairs of men."

· One judge, openly hostile, said that if the Commandments were allowed, courts across America could be decorated with taxpayer-funded murals of the life of Christ and the Crucifixion or block-letter signs asking, "What would Jesus do?"

· If the panel rules against Moore, another date will be issued by which Moore must remove the monument. Whatever the ruling, there will be an appeal to the full Court of Appeals and then on to the U.S. Supreme Court, but there is no guarantee the Supreme Court will take the case.

· Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Moore warned that if he loses every public affirmation or reference to God, given time, will be expunged from American public life.

Moore’s case underscores our desperate need for God-fearing judges in the State and Federal courts. Rev. Rob Schenk, Director of the Ten Commandments Project, said, “Moore is right! This is truly a watershed case. It will determine the future trajectory all such cases….”
